The Babylonian ruler Nebuchadnezzar II did rebuild a ziggurat (a rectangular steeped tower) temple dedicated to Marduk Bagdad in the sixth century B.C. Something is amiss here.Īn important element in the development of this mythology is the architecture of Babylon itself. To make matters worse, the book of Genesis itself tells a different story about the diversity of languages that takes place immediately before the Tower of Babel story. there is evidence for a variety of different languages being used before this time. So even if we ignore all of the archeological evidence for prehistoric hominins, the broad dispersion of human beings, and cultural differences that predate 2242 B.C. Tamil and hieroglyphics both pre-date the building of the first Tower of Babel. (when the initial phase of construction allegedly took place). Even putting aside the fact that this theory about the Tower of Babel and its building phases is grounded in the assumption that the Earth was created in 4004 B.C., there’s considerable evidence for the use of a variety of different languages prior to 2242 B.C. There are, as you might imagine, some problems with this theory. ![]() Meyer said, “When the crème de la crème of the international community was wearing fine linen, purple and scarlet and smelling like cinnamon and frankincense, the new vacation hotspot was the rebuilt Tower of Babel in Babylon.” Meyer cited Henry Hampton Halley’s Bible Handbook (first published in 1926) as evidence for the idea that the “original Tower of Babel” incident occurred “around 2000 BCE” roughly “100 years after the Flood of Noah.” Halley is not a resource for scholars today and, like Meyer, was well-known for his ability to memorize the Bible. Efforts to rebuild the Tower apparently attracted attention. The first attempt was initiated by the famous law-giver Hammurabi (1792-1750 B.C.) and the second by Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562 B.C.). Speaking to Express, Meyer-who is best known for his ability to memorize Bible verses-said that work on the Tower of Babel was restarted on two occasions. It’s clear from the story that the original Tower was supposed to be in Babylon and this is where Meyer claims people attempted to rebuild the Tower of Babel. Book of Jubilees or the writings of the enslaved Greek historian Alexander Polyhistor that the temple is actually destroyed. It’s only in later sources like the second century B.C. As a bonus we also learn the origins of the name of the city of Babylon as the name Babel, or Babylon, sounds a great deal like the Hebrew word for “confused.” Despite what you may have seen in artistic depictions of the story, the Book of Genesis never mentions the destruction of the Tower of Babel, only the dispersion of the people. God was simply putting them in their place. If you were wondering why it is that people aren’t united and don’t speak the same language then here is your answer: When people were united they ruined the skyline, tried to trespass on divine property, and became obsessed with fame. As a result, he “confuse their language” so that they didn’t understand each other and scattered them over the Earth.Īlmost every scholar of the Hebrew Bible sees the story as a myth that answers a question about the human condition. ![]() Rather than destroying the construction like a game of celestial Jenga, God identified human collaboration and unity as the real problem. God, however, who observed this architecturally audacious endeavor, was unimpressed. Their goal was to make a name for themselves. They started with a city built in Shinar (or Babylon) and constructed the city using baked bricks and tar for mortar. According to statements made by Tom Meyer, a professor of Bible Studies at Shasta Bible College, there is archeological evidence to suggest that it actually existed and became a tourist destination in the ancient world.Īccording to Genesis 11, the postdiluvian inhabitants of the world decided to try and climb up to heaven by building an ancient tower or, you might say, skyscraper. Last weekend British tabloid The Daily Express ran a story announcing the sensational discovery that the Tower of Babel actually existed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Standard melee combos can be dished out with one button, long-range ki blasts can be fired with another, super attacks are performed by pushing the right stick in one direction, and the even more powerful ultimate attacks are done by clicking the right stick. All the moves are incredibly easy to pull off. The combatants all soar effortlessly in all directions through large, three-dimensional environments, and the blistering speeds with which they move around make controlling them a pleasure. Little has changed with regard to the fighting mechanics since the first game. ![]() The rest are recycled from the original Raging Blast. And of the 14 environments in which you can do battle, only four are new for this sequel. The only real difference is in the super and ultimate attacks they have at their disposal, but these, too, are largely the same for many characters, even if the names and animations associated with them are different. All the characters handle almost identically and have functionally identical melee attacks and combos. But since the differences between one character and the next remain mostly cosmetic, this does nothing to address the shallow gameplay. It adds 20 characters to the roster, bringing the total to 90, which sure sounds like a lot. Raging Blast 2 feels more like a modest expansion of the first game than a full-fledged sequel, which makes its $60 price point pretty tough to swallow. The visual energy is still there, but Raging Blast 2 doesn't do anything we haven't seen before, making its weaknesses even harder to forgive than they were in the striking but flawed original. And sadly, Raging Blast 2 does very little to improve upon its predecessor. But while it admirably captured the look and energy of the Dragon Ball anime, delivering fights filled with stylish attacks and demonstrations of tremendous power, the core fighting action was too shallow and repetitive to make wielding that power much fun. ![]() Last year's Dragon Ball: Raging Blast kicked off a new series of fighting games set in the popular Dragon Ball universe. Raging Blast 2's good looks and fan service can't conceal the shallow combat at its heart. Blast 2 is a video game based on the manga and anime franchise Dragon Ball and is a follow-up to the 2009 video game Dragon Ball: Raging Blast. ![]() Generate Images from VHD imagesįor XenServer’s OpenStack integration, the VHD disks should be contained in gzipped tarball, as we can support having multiple differencing disks (snapshots) from a single base VHD. Every song is like a different chapter out of a well-read book. Album closer “Looking For Your Name” is definitely the softest song on the album and may feel more like Gavin featuring Armin than anything else, but the slower conclusion equalizes the album’s up-tempo/down-tempo ratio, and for an album called ‘Embrace’, I think this was the right choice considering the more goose bump-warranting emotional theme. Gavin DeGraw, known for pop hits including “Chariot” and “I Don’t Want to Be”, is the lucky man who gets to sing us out. Hardwell remixed “Ping Pong”, a record off Armin’s previous release, ‘Intense’, and this collaboration is easily the follow-up, a continuation of bouncy, hypnotic electro house beats mixing with the trance sound. The track sets the stage for the awaited collaboration with Hardwell, “Off the Hook”. “Old Skool”, like its name suggests, brings some throwback dance flavor and spins it for a new audience, a theme I picked up on throughout the album. American DJ DBX appears on “Indestructible”, an upbeat house track that flexes its muscle with superb vocals. BullySongs appears again on “Freefall”, a song in line with popular progressive dance hits at the moment. ‘Embrace’ approaches its back end on a high point. “Embargo”, featuring prominent German trance duo Cosmic Gate wraps the center of the album with a festival appropriate piece that is both bouncy and melodic. The verses are ballad-like in composition, building up to a chorus a few levels above deep house but a few below booming progressive or electro house, a happy medium. BullySongs collaborates on “Caught In The Slipstream”, showing a softer side of ‘Embrace’. Armin is known for his lengthier club tracks, and clocking in at six minutes, this number reminds me of trance friends Above and Beyond sonically in its progression, but it is a quality song and is fitting for the heart of the album. (I was walking wounded / through frozen lonely nights / you tape my heart together / you kiss the pain goodbye) Premiering earlier this fall on Electrified, “Hands to Heaven” features sought-after American producers Rock Mafia. ![]() ![]() “Gotta Be Love” features American singer Lyrica Anderson, declaring a determination for love. Armin perfectly blends his world of dance with their world of rock with the type of song that gets concertgoers in a carefree state of mind, waving their hands in the air from side to side. ‘Embrace’ segues into its center with “Heading Up High” featuring Dutch rock band Kensington. The first portion of ‘Embrace’ wraps with “Face of Summer” featuring Sarah deCourcy, similar in spirit to the tracks before it but with a softer melody. Featuring vocals from The Voice contestant Angel Taylor, this track starts off with a sexy night out vibe before transitioning to a softer, almost ballad-like moment and climaxing at a melodic chorus. ![]() If “Strong Ones” is the song that gets you out of your chair and onto the dance floor, “Make It Right” is the song that keeps you there. Dutch singer-songwriter Cimo Frankel keeps the momentum alive, appearing on “Strong Ones”, a promising contender for next single with its upbeat bubbliness without being in your face like other dance songs at the moment. Armin then flips the switch onto hit lead single, “Another You”, a house track fit for today’s dance scene yet still stained with Armin’s artistry. The album opens with the former on the title track, a seven-and-a-half-minute ode to the trance family Armin built with his radio show. Now, the Leiden, Netherlands native returns with his sixth studio album, ‘Embrace’.įorgive me for the cheese I’m about to serve, but this album allows listeners, new and old fans alike, to “embrace” Armin’s current style, a mixture of his trance roots and his interpretation of today’s popularized electro house boom. For dance music fans, Armin has left a legacy with mega club hits such as “In and Out of Love” and “This Is What It Feels Like”, five pristine albums and a devoted fan base of A State of Trance, his weekly radio show highlighting the best artists of the trance subgenre. A legend in his own right, this Dutch producer’s discography speaks for itself. This month, Electrified WSOU highlights the latest from electronic connoisseur Armin van Buuren. ![]() ![]() ![]() The first episode is nothing but a series of emotional manipulation for the main protagonist who not only he loses his soccer team, but he loses his mother due to an illness.
